Barnabas Center is a local faith-based organization that is meeting unmet needs in the Nassau community. Builders Care, a not for profit construction company founded by the Northeast Florida Builders Association, is joining forces with the Barnabas Center to build 14 ramps and perform many other badly needed home repairs in just one day. To accomplish this task 14 builders and many individuals, corporations, and church groups including NEFBA Nassau Builders Council, Barnabas Center, Nassau County Council on Aging, First Coast Community Bank, Lumber Unlimited, and Fernandina Lumber are working hard to make this event possible. Lumber Unlimited and Fernandina Lumber are donating all lumber necessary for the completion of the 14 ramp projects. It truly is a community event.

Barnabas Center is a private, non-profit social service agency whose mission is to see that Nassau County Florida families who find themselves in financial crisis have shelter, food, and basic necessities. We do that by paying rent and utility bills and in some cases medical and dental expenses for those who can't meet those expenses on their own; by collecting and dispensing donated food; and by giving clothing and household goods to those that need them. In addition, we operate the Samaritan Medical Clinic, a free health care facility for the uninsured. Our dental outreach program has helped clients with dental problems for the past 2 years. Both the medical and dental services are donated by licensed doctors, nurses, social workers and many caring volunteers.

Our resale store, New to You, collects donations of personal property for distribution to our clients and for resale to the public to raise money to fund our other operations. We have a qualifying system for identifying applicants who need our help most by an intake interview process. We are not a welfare agency; we focus on those whose circumstances have thrown them into a temporary financial bind without sufficient resources to maintain their home and keep their family together. In addition to the funds provided by our resale store, we receive some funding from other sources, including United Way, Nassau County, the City of Fernandina Beach, various foundations, many of the area churches, and individuals and businesses.
